Quincy Chiefs have stepped up to Buzz Off Cancer! Fire, Police, Sherriff, and EMS departments have offered up their Chiefs in a challenge to see who can raise the most funds to support local cancer patients.
My mother is the strongest person I know. She has been personally battling ovarian cancer for about three years now. I have seen first hand the toll that cancer takes on the body, and the finances, of the individual affected. Whether is is the ever changing list of medications, the constant purchase of supplies needed to help with your medical needs or the constant trips to the doctor in St. Louis - it is all expensive. My mother once spent 6 weeks in St. Louis for treatment and more recently spent a month in the local hospital. I don't care how good your insurance is, it takes a toll.
When I was asked to participate in this program I asked who specifically would benefit from the funds raised. I liked the answer. These dollars help people that are in the fight, deal with the associated costs of being in the fight. For this reason, my mother and I agreed that this would be a great thing to be involved with. So, we are asking for you to help us, help others. Donate what you can and rest assured that every dollar will go to help someone dealing with the challenges of the fight against cancer.
On a related note, I am in a competition with the Police Chief, EMS Chief and Sheriff to see which of us can raise the most funds. While I don't know that some of them have as much to lose (you gotta have hair to shave it off) I do know that each of these guys has a big heart and has said yes to the project. With that said, I still would hate to lose to them. Please, give what you can, and tune in for pictures as I lose my hair for the cause. I need to raise $1,000. I know we can do it together!
