After several months of doctors visits, Melody was diagnosed with Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease. It is extremely rare and there is currently no treatment nor cure.
CJD is widely misunderstood and misdiagnosed, but essentially it falls under the umbrella of dementia. Throughout the manifestation of CJD, Melody experienced memory loss, impaired speech, and decreased mobility. However, the moment she heard a familiar song she was herself again, often dancing and singing or humming along. She was always incredibly social, and CJD did not impair her delight in seeing people and making connections with friends and family.
Your donation to the Creutzfeld-Jakob Foundation will ensure further research to discover a means of preventing and best treating with those suffering from the disease, as well as provide support to families who have loved ones with CJD.
