Thank you to everyone who made this year's event a success! With your help, we were able to raise over $140,000 for children's mental health services. We could not do it with out the endless support of our amazing community. We look forward to seeing you in 2022!

The pandemic changed our process, but it never changed our mission.

Now, more than ever, we need to make an impact on the children and families served by the Parent Child Resource Center, a BHcare program. COVID-19 stay-at-home orders resulted in more isolation and increased stress on children who struggle with mental health and behavioral issues. We had to drastically shift and adjust the ways we provide client services to maintain the highest safety standards during this crisis. But our mission to help children live and lead healthy lives remains steadfast. We are dedicated to providing access to mental health and behavioral services to children ages birth through 18.

A Chance to Shine 2021: The Best of Both Worlds

Last year, we restructured our annual A Chance to Shine ride and walk to a virtual event. Thanks to our amazing community, we raised over $100,000 for the Parent Child Resource Center. This year, we're combining the best of both worlds and holding a virtual bike ride with an in-person walk at Quarry Walk in Oxford, Connecticut.

We'll kickoff on July 31 with a virtual bike ride and conclude the 2021 event on August 14 with a 10 a.m. walk and celebration at Quarry Walk. Bring your own blankets and snacks, or grab a bite at one of the several eateries on site. We're excited to have WPLR's Chaz and AJ host their epic Classic Car Show! We'll have live music by Social Convention, The Elwoods, Morgan Skelly & The Old Crows, kids' activities, Touch-a-Truck and some special surprises up our sleeves. All funds raised will support the children and families at the Parent Child Resource Center.

The need for children's mental health services is greater than ever.

The Covid-19 pandemic impacted our clients significantly. Children and families had to quickly adapt with the sudden changes in our world due to the health crisis. The Parent Child Resource Center is seeing a lot more children with severe anxiety, isolation and depression.  From March 2020 through December 2020, our clinicians provided nearly 11,000 telehealth appointments. The solution is to have more access to mental health resources.

According to the 2020 Children's Mental Health Report and parent survey by the Child Mind Institute, more than two thirds of parents who sought help since the start of the pandemic said they had witnessed a decline in their child’s emotional well-being (72%), behavior (68%), and physical health due to decreased activities/exercise (68%).

Findings from the survey also showed that anxiety and depression are the most common mental health challenges leading parents to seek telehealth services for their child.

Every kid deserves a chance to shine.

When children are faced with problems such as depression, extreme anxiety, abuse, neglect and abandonment, and other types of trauma, they're are unable to recognize their strengths. Emotions can become overwhelmingly big, and behavioral control can easily be lost.

The Parent Child Resource Center provides guidance with innovative, creative and evidence-based programs. We guide children with school and help them become hopeful, confident and secure. We work with their parents, teachers and caregivers to ensure what they’ve learned at the Parent Child Resource Center is reinforced throughout their daily life.

By joining us this year, donating and sponsoring, you’re giving each child at the Parent Child Resource Center A Chance to Shine.
