September is National Literacy Month so this cocktail was made with this in mind as well as the American Cancer Society.
"Immortal" was specially crafted as a tribute to Henrietta Lacks and her namesake story, "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks." Henrietta was a black woman who was diagnosed with cervical cancer and underwent treatment at Johns Hopkins in the '50s. Doctors removed her cancer tissue and used it for medical research without her consent. Her cancer cells went on to be one of the most important tools in biomedical research, which still exist today. This cocktail is meant to inspire conversations about upholding and supporting the wishes of those with cancer, patients' rights, and the importance of medical consent as well as the benefits to and consequences of medical research.
