When my mom, Lee Ann, introduced me to the Ada Jenkins Center several years ago, I immediately recognized what an amazing organization it is and how it serves as a true haven for people in need.
My mom volunteers at the Ada Jenkins Center with the Development Team who plan all the events that help bring in money to the Center to fund the many services offered for the people in need. The Center serves the communities of Cornelius, Huntersville and Davidson. Mom has always said how much she loves this organization and she always speaks so highly of the social workers and all the employees who work at AJC who are so passionate about their contributions to the Center and the people they serve.
Over the past couple of years, I have volunteered at some of the events organized and hosted by the Development Team. I have seen the passion that my mom has raved about and how hard the team works to make the events the best they can be. And, the events are super fun!
It is so amazing to think that this building, that once operated as a school for African-American children during segregation, has evolved into a sanctuary with red double doors that open and offer free dental care, a free medical clinic, the largest food pantry in North Mecklenburg County, workforce development, and so much more to our community!
It is no coincidence that the Ada Jenkins Center’s mission statement is:
We help people create lasting solutions for economic stability.
