ALK Positive, Inc. is a Patient-Driven Organization, Dedicated to Improving the life expectancy and quality of life for ALK-Positive Patients Worldwide.
In September 2024, 23 months after diagnosis, Amanda was honored to join the board of directors. Giving back to the organization, and being in such an active role within it, gives our family HOPE.
As of 2018, the medium life expectancy was 7 years with a stage 4 diagnosis. 20 years ago, there was only a 2% chance of surviving past 5 years. With research, the current clinical trials, the new and amazing drugs, and the active involvement of the ALK Positive Medical Committee & Grants provided by ALK Positive our life expectancies are increasing every day. The goal is to make this a chronic illness in our lifetimes. Think AIDS today vs 30 years ago.
The medicine Amanda takes (Alecensa by Genentech) only gained FDA approval in 2017 as a 1st line treatment. It is because of this targeted treatment Amanda is able to live such a "normal" life as stage 4 lung cancer patient.
This organization is as specific as possible to Amanda's specific cancer. Your donations directly impact her because MORE RESEARCH = MORE LIFE.
