About Art on the Avenue

Now in its 25th year, Avenue's annual fundraiser has gained a reputation as a fabulous event for artists, architects, developers, art collectors, and young professionals to mix and mingle in support of good art, good food, and a good cause.

Art on the Avenue is the biggest silent auction of local art in Houston, and a great place to buy art for yourself or as a gift. Featuring artwork from more than 250 local Houston artists each year, the event benefits Avenue’s work to build and preserve affordable housing, revitalize distressed neighborhoods, while supporting local artists.

Proceeds support our mission to enhance the quality of life for working families, and to promote healthy, vibrant and economically diverse neighborhoods in Houston.

History of Art on the Avenue

Art on the Avenue began in 1996 as a fundraiser for the Old Sixth Ward Community Development Corporation, the precursor to Avenue.

The first Art on the Avenue was organized by Mark Parthie, Judge Steve Kirkland, Christine Maguire and Dawn Bell featured works from a handful of local artists. It was held in the former O.J. Trapolino / Silver Street Grocery Store (1929) at the corner of Silver and Kane Streets. In Mark's words "We didn't sell a single piece of art but we sure had a fun party!"

The following year, the event was hosted at the David Addicks studio on Summer Street, before we finally settled in at our home at Winter Street Studios where we have been ever since.

Since 1996, Art on the Avenue has generated over $2 million to support the mission of Avenue and over $700,000 to local artists.
