I am doing this to gain a better understanding of the challenges that some of our citizens that are experiencing homelessness face. While I understand that 48 hours with a home to come back to after this is over is not the same as being homeless, I also know that this will be difficult. The fear of not knowing where my next meal may come from or what the weather elements will bring or where will I sleep is something I’ll see for the first time. Unfortunately a great number of our citizens live those fears daily. As a law enforcement officer I hope to better understand what I can do to help aide those in need and share those experiences with others. It is my duty to serve all citizens in Evansville, and once I walk a mile in the shoes of someone that is without shelter I hope to be a better policeman and resource to those in need.

Aurora is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the homeless and near homeless in the Greater Evansville, IN area. Each year, it serves over 500 individuals: men, women, children, those with disabilities, and the re-entry population. 

The Homeless Experience Project is Aurora’s new fundraiser and awareness event and its purpose is to bring a greater understanding of the struggles the families and individuals face when homeless in our community. If you'd like to support Aurora, please donate to my fundraising page!
