This is our third year walking in the Baby Steps 3K. We walk to thank Children's Hospital for helping us bring home happy and healthy babies and to honor families who are on or remembering their journeys. Nearly four years ago, we faced one of the scariest days of our lives. When our daughter Greta was born, she was not breathing and had suffered a brain injury. After hours of terrifying news and pessimistic outlooks from previous providers, Greta was transferred to Children's Hospital NICU where we met Nurse Patrick. It was then that we knew our little girl was in the best care possible, and it was then that we let ourselves feel hope. Everyday we gained more and more hope as Nurse Kim and the entire Children's staff encouraged and loved Greta through her stay at the hospital. 

Nearly, two years later, we welcomed Owen to the family. Not to be outdone by his sister, he surprised us by arriving early. He also spent time in the NICU at Children's. Ironically, the first time I held Owen was in the room right next door to the room where I first held Greta. We even had the same amazing nurses supporting him and our family the second time around. Owen has shown his determination from the start as he quickly caught on to breathing and eating to join our family at home. 

We are fortunate to have the village of love and support around us as we raise our beautiful children. We honor families and babies who haven't had the happy ending we've had.  Owen and Greta walk to honor their cousin Edie Beatrice whose short time on earth will always be with us. We walk in gratitude for the precious time we all have with our children and our families. Thank you for being part of our journey.
