Our Mission
Food insecurity is the state of being unable to consistently access adequate amounts of food necessary for an active and healthy life. The households that the Beat Bama Food Drive serves, through the Food Bank of East Alabama, experience limited or uncertain access to food, at times unsure of where they will find their next meal. The Food Bank of East Alabama is a member of Feeding America, the nation's largest food bank network with more than 200 member food banks across the United States. It distributes to seven counties, and in those counties, 66,090 individuals live in food-insecure households, 18,530 of which are children, and 5,750 are seniors.
We are all human and have the fundamental right to life, and an essential part of sustaining life is food. We who have access to adequate amounts of food may be considered priveleged compared to those who do not. The French phrase "noblesse oblige" denotes the concept that is it "the inferred responsibility of privileged people to act with generosity and nobility toward those less privileged." Therefore, it is our duty to contribute as much as we can in order to ease the level of food insecurity that is prominent in East Alabama. Together, we can impact the lives of many and beat food insecurity.
