Courtney's Fundraising Page
Hi! My name is Courtney Mitchell. I am a sophomore at Auburn University and on the Beat Bama Food Drive Committee. Our goal is to raise money and non-perisable food items to fight food insecurity in Alabama.
1 in 6 people do not know where their next meal is going to come from. That is an alarming number when we think of the excess that we waste daily, but YOU can help fight this! Just by donating $1.00 you provide 7 meals to those in need. So, a simple $10.00 donation equals 70 meals! Any donation is appreciated and will be put to good use. All fund are donated to the Food Bank of East Alabama.
Why is this important to me?
Working with food insecurities in very important because of the way society often views people who have to ask for help. Many people may think that they are just lazy and will not go out and get a job, but this is often not the case. Several people who receive help have mental or physical disabilities that will not allow them told down jobs, and they might have kids or other family members they need to provide for but do not have the resources to do so. In addition, impoverished families might just be barely able to make ends meet and the ability to receive addition food will allow them to be able to continue to improve their life style and work towards one day being able to completely support themselves.
Food Insecurities can also lead to underdevelopment in children. Children may not have access to foods, such as fruits, vegetable, and protein they need to grow up strong and healthy.
