My name is Devin Baker, and I am very excited to share that I will be participating in Bikes Not Bombs' virtual Bike-A-Thon. One day out of the week of September 12-20, I will be biking a total of 50 miles in support of Bikes Not Bombs' mission. I am planning to complete this 50 mile ride on Saturday, September 19.
The mission of Bikes Not Bombs (BNB) is to use the bicycle as a vehicle for social change. The organization reclaims thousands of bicycles each year, they create local and global programs that provide skill development, jobs, and sustainable transportation and their programs mobilize youth and adults to be leaders in community transformation.
Why am I doing this?
1. I recently found a strong interest in biking. Biking has allowed me to safely remain active while exploring the greater Boston area.
2. Bikes Not Bombs' mission is one that blends my interest in biking with my desire to sustain social justice practices in my everyday life. It is my intention to be active in my community by working to uplift those in my community, educate and provide opportunities to all of our youth and amplify voices within the Black Lives Matter movement, among additional equally important causes. BNB accomplishes many of these goals in a unique way.
3. Lastly, I love living in Jamaica Plain (JP). Jamaica Plain has quickly become my home. The people are kind, progressive, open, welcoming, warm and unique. BNB is located in JP so I look forward to supporting an organization in my own neighborhood.
Where You Come In:
I am hoping to raise $500 for my participation in the Virtual Bike-A-Thon. In other words, I hope to raise $10 for each mile I bike. All of the proceeds will go straight to BNB. These funds are critical to helping their programs continue throughout the year!
It is with a gracious heart that I ask you to make a donation to this cause. If you do, send me your address - you'll get a thank you note from me as soon as I complete my 50-mile ride!
Thank you so much for reading this far! Thank you for considering! Thank you for donating!
In solidarity and with love,
Dev
