Zero Egrets given... to letting our birds down.
Hi! I'm Amanda, Executive Director of the Northern Virginia Bird Alliance —and it's birdathon season!!
Birding changed the way I see the world. It's slowed me down, sharpened my attention, and connected me to a community of people who genuinely care about the wild things sharing our backyards, parks, and shorelines. Leading NVBA is one of the great honors of my career, and Birdathon is one of my favorite traditions we get to share with our community each spring.
When you give to Zero Egrets, you're directly supporting the work I get to see up close every day: getting people off their screens and into nature, community science that contributes to our understanding of bird populations, habitat conservation across northern Virginia, and programs that help people plant native and protect the wildlife that depends on it. Birdathon also feeds eBird, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's database that helps ornithologists better understand spring migration — meaning every species we spot is part of something much bigger.
Here's how you can help:
- Donate. Any amount makes a difference — $10, $25, $100, whatever feels right. Every dollar goes toward protecting the birds and habitats we love in northern Virginia.
- Spread the word. Share this page with your friends, family, and anyone who's ever stopped to watch a hawk on a fence post. The more people who know about NVBA, the more we can do.
Thank you for being part of this. Birds don't have a vote, a voice, or a wallet — but they have us. And right now, they have you. ?
With gratitude, Amanda
