Rocking the Boathouse is Rocking the Boat's spring event at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park, a fitting location for the organization’s alumni and metropolitan area supporters to come together and celebrate their shared appreciation of wood, boats, water, and all that is possible for the young people of the South Bronx.
Thursday, May 5, 2022 6:30-9:30pm
(VIP pre-event 5:30-6:30pm)
Funds raised will support Rocking the Boat's signature Boatbuilding, Environmental Science, and Sailing youth development programs; wrap-around social work and college counseling; extended services for program alumni; and inspiring outdoor experiences for middle schoolers and the larger South Bronx community. Rocking the Boat has developed a reputation as one of the most extraordinary programs of its kind in the nation. Over 800 young people have participated in the Youth Development Program since its inception and many thousands more have experienced Rocking the Boat’s broad reaching Public Programs.
All guests must show proof at check-in that they are fully vaccinated. Rocking the Boat and the Boathouse designed the event and space to meet guests at their individual comfort level. If the event is cancelled or postponed for any reason, requests for refunds will be honored.
Shuttle service is available at approximately 15-minute intervals to take guests to and from Fifth Avenue and the Boathouse. It stops at the corner of 72nd Street and at 80th Street near the Metropolitan Museum’s garage.

Youth grow best when they can explore interests, engage with their peers, set and attain goals, and spend time in a safe and supportive environment. This is what Rocking the Boat is all about. While our programs would benefit any kid anywhere, we are intentionally located in and serve residents of the South Bronx to counterbalance systemic inequities that impact, yet do not define, this vibrant community.
On average, 96% of Rocking the Boat students graduate from high school on time. That rate is 17.8% in Hunts Point generally.
Nearly 100% enroll in college or technical schools directly out of high school
95% of participants grow in social emotional competency
Rocking the Boat’s floating dock is the home base of our Sailing Program at the mouth of the Bronx River. It must be replaced this year. Our Board of Directors will match all dock gifts dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. Please participate in the Dock Challenge and help us raise a total of $50,000 for this project by the time the event on May 5 ends. If you are unable to attend Rocking the Boathouse but would still like to participate in the Challenge, please contact Talene Kelly at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will ensure that your gift is counted toward the match.
