I am thrilled and honored to be running the 128th Boston Marathon for Dougie’s Team again to raise funds for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. I consider this a great challenge but also a tremendous privilege. Their mission believes in a world where people with Autism lead productive lives where they are included, respected, and actively engaged in their communities. These principals hit very close to home – as some of you know, my brother Josh (24) was diagnosed with Autism at age 5. His younger years were extremely difficult to manage, but through the years my family has been very fortunate to have such great support from our community and Josh’s educators to assist in his transition into adulthood. Josh’s accolades include being the prior Middleboro High School Varsity Basketball manager, former Edaville Railroad employee, active Best Buddies member, and his newest accomplishment – working as an Associate at Marshalls. His geography, music, and sports knowledge are unmatched – with an elephant’s memory, he keeps us all in check!
As if running 26.2 miles isn’t a challenge enough, I am also committing to raising $8,000 for this inspiring organization. Your donation will continue to improve the daily lives of people and families affected by autism. The Flutie Foundation provides direct financial support, which makes an immediate impact on these families. Your generosity will provide tablets and assistive technology, camp, and sports scholarships, help people with autism pursue their musical and artistic talents, or ensure the safety of an autistic child by providing funding for a fence or GPS safety bracelet.
