Peter Kotsifas
Hi,
Thanks for checking out my fundraising site for the 2024 Boston Marathon! I'm very excited about this opportunity to raise money for the Flutie Foundation and fulfil my goal to run the Boston Marathon again. I am honored and thankful to the Flutie Foundation for accepting my application to join their team this year.
If you aren't aware, I have been affiliated with my good friend Richard Spurling's non-profit called Aceing Autism for the last 15 years. Richard and I met in 2000 when Richard and I both worked at Ballymeade Country Club on Cape Cod. A few years later, Richard and his wife, Shafali, founded a non-profit with the mission to teach autistic children how to play tennis - it started with 2 tennis sites and a few kids in the metro Boston area. Fifteen years and 131 sites later across 27 states...here we are! I'm so proud of what Aceing Autism has become and the thousands of children we have served. Aceing Autism has partnered with The Flutie Foundation over the years to help support autistic children and their families and we're proud to call them our friend and partner.
It's been over 20 years since I last ran the Boston Marathon and as of the beginning of this year if you asked me if I would be training for the Boston Marathon by the end of the year I probably would've raised an eyebrow or two. But my training really took off this summer as I discovered the Whitney Woods trails in Cohasset and increased my mileage and long run distance each month. I was able to hit the milestone of running a half marathon during a training run in the beginning of August and then ran in the South South Half Marathon in November finishing 11th in the 50-59 age group.
Last week (beginning of December), we took delivery of a Nordic Track treadmill. One of the nice things about running on a treadmill is you can really control your pace and its a more cushioned running surface than a road which helps on the wear and tear on the joints. This was one of the reasons why I decided to start trail running this summer not knowing I would really fall in love with running on trails - no cars to worry about, softer surface, beaufiful scenery and tranquility.
Thanks again for checking out this page. I hope my 2024 marathon adventure inspires you!

2023 Boston Marathon Recap
Whitney Woods, Cohasset, 8/6/23
13.1 miles! I took a screenshot of my mileage this day because it was hot and humid and this was the most miles I had at one time since running the Boston Marathon wayyyy back in 2002. I sent my friend Corey this screenshot with the text "...ran a half marathon in the woods today. I feel like a barbarian!"
Whitney Woods, Cohassset, 9/23/23
11.7 mile run. I took this picture as I was running. I look happy and dry...must've taken this picture at the beginning of my run haha
Whitney Woods, Cohasset, 9/30/23
The trail is green and lush, just beginning to show some leaves changing color.

This place is amazing, hope to get back there again soon.

4 miles. Had some time to kill while Halle was at a birthday party in Plymouth so I Googled running trails nearby.
Whitney Woods, Cohasset, 10/7/23
12.1 miles. I had to take a picture to commemorate my faceplant on the trail as I was trying to find a song on my phone while running. Note to self...stop and find the song. It looks like this day was hot and humid by way my shirt is clinging to my skin, totally soaked.

We're definitely in full fall foliage at this point but you can still make out the trail.

I took this picture as I was approaching the finish line...I look a little disheveled, but was happy to finish considering I had pulled a muscle in my back a week prior to the race tying my shoes of all things!
South Shore Half Marathon, 11/5/23
Wasn't expecting to so this well
Cohasset High, 11/16/23
6 miles. Starting to get dark too early. While I was running 24 boring laps around the track I was reminded of a story I read in grade school called "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner".
