On May 25 I wil begin a 5-day, 400 mile bike trip from Boston to Montreal - It's a fundraiser for a great organization called the Boston Cyclists Union (BCU). BCU's goal is to help Boston become a more bike-friendly city--they are a dynamic and very effective non-profit.
Biking 400 miles is no joke. We'll be biking 70-80 miles a day for the first 4 days, capped off by 100 miles on day 5, when we cross the Canadian border. There will be hills. There will be weather. There will be sleeping in campsites in popup tents (really? at my age?)
Why Montreal? Because it's ranked as the most bike-friendly city in North America. Once we arrive, we'll spend a couple of days learning how to apply their best practices to Boston (Montreal has 450 miles of bike paths; Boston has about 80). Montreal also has the best bagels in North America so maybe they need those bike paths to work off the calories!
