Help Me Bike to Canada for Safe Streets in Boston
I'm biking 400 miles from Boston to Montreal in support of the Boston Cyclists Union's work to make biking better in and around Boston. I'm asking you to help me reach my fundraising goal. Thanks to outstanding generous support, we've already blown away the minimum goal for first-time riders. The new goal covers half of a scholarship BCU offers to make this trip accessible to all.
Biking has been part of my life since my dad strapped little-toddler-me on the back of his Peugeot ten-speed. I've lived a "bike-only" and "bike-mostly" life in New Orleans, Atlanta, and now Somerville/Cambridge/Boston. Commuting by bike lets me arrive at my hospital job awake and connected with the world, and unwind on the way home. I get to look my fellow commuters in the eye and acknowledge our shared humanity. I reduce my climate impact and spend gas money on "fuel" from local bakeries instead. When cities are accessible to bikes, they're safer, cleaner, and more livable for everyone.
Last year I had a front row seat as my partner Scott trained, fundraised, built biking community, and had a blast. I got to join him and the crew there to explore the exemplary bike infrastructure of Montreal, a fellow (cold) northern city.
This year my seat is a bike saddle! Averaging 80 miles daily for 5 days far exceeds my personal record but I'm confident with your support I can do it. Here's why your donation matters:

Your investment will have an impact.
The Boston Cyclists Union (BCU) is Boston's voice for a bikable city. It's professionally run yet driven by grass roots organizing. BCU is behind many of the protected bike lanes I use daily, and electric bikeshare bikes like the one I rode to Somerville City Hall the first day they were available in that profile pic above. -
You value efforts to make our planet safer, cleaner, more just, and more loving.
The BCU's efforts toward more bikeable streets is part of their deep commitment to helping Boston become a more just and equitable city, a place where ALL people can thrive and together, we can all live our best collective self. Thanks to BCU, folks get on bikes who wouldn't have before. -
Don't you want to be the wind at my back?
Helping me reach my fundraising goal will be a great encouragement, and I'll share my progress with you as I go along.
