My Personal Fundraising Page
Welcome to my Bos/tréal fundraising page!
Bos/tréal is a fundraising and community building ride supporting the Boston Cyclist Union. About 40 supporters of BCU will ride the 400 miles to Montréal together to gain inspiration from a world-class cycling city while spending the week making friends that will be able to organize together for implementing better infrastructure back home in Boston. I am hopeful that you can help support my trip by donating to the BCU!
I have been living in Boston and Cambridge since I came for school at Northeastern University about 15 years ago and am a daily bike commuter through Cambridge and Boston. I have long been a supporter of the Boston Cyclist Union, the city’s primary bicycle advocacy organization, and over the past few years I have really dived into actively advocating for safe bike infrastructure throughout Greater Boston.
Last year I rode Bos/tréal for the first time and had a blast. I met so many amazing people. From conversations with these new friends, I was inspired to organize a new group within BCU called BCU Labs. This is an effort to use data related to biking around Boston to more effectively advocate for improvements. Most of the founding members of this group were people I met and got to know through Bos/tréal. So far we have published an introductory article to some of the data sources we plan to work with and a detailed analysis of how a bike lane improvement in Cambridge (that I use daily for my commutes to work) significantly increased how many people are biking in my neighborhood. We have many more plans to build upon these, but have already seen national attention, getting picked up by Momentum Magazine, StreetsBlog USA, and AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials).
I am returning to Bos/tréal this year to continue supporting BCU, building the bicycle advocacy community, and give back to this volunteer organized ride, helping organize training rides this year. This year my partner Mel is joining after seeing how valuable of an experience Bos/tréal was to me last year.
Please consider donating whatever you are able to in order to help support this fantastic organization and the amazing work it does! If you can not donate at this time, please consider sharing my fundraising page. Thank you for your time and support!
Thank you for all your support and happy riding!
Scott
Top of longest climb
Day 3 has a great mountain pass in the Green Mountains. The 10 mile downhill is pretty cool too.
Team Selfie waiting for the bike ferry
Found a great core riding group for the whole ride. We had some time waiting for the bike ferry to cross the gap in the causeway across the lake.
Canvasing for Cambridge City Council Elections
Helping get the word out about city councilor candidates that support safer bike lanes in Cambridge. Met a candidate while he was biking to canvas for himself.
Ride in the Mayor Wu!
During the Orange Line shutdown last year, BCU led bike trains for T riders trying out biking into the office. Mayor Wu was happy to join on her way into City Hall.
People Protected Bike Lane
Attended a peaceful demonstration with BCU to encourage the city of Boston upgrade a major bike route to have safe bike lanes.
Denali
Biked 45 miles through Denali National Park, saw some moose and caribou while a grizzly prevented us from going further
