If you know me, you know that Bos/treal isn’t just a bike ride - it’s a pilgrimage.
Every year, a scrappy, determined, and slightly chaotic band of cyclists embarks on a 400-mile journey from Boston to Montreal to raise money for the Boston Cyclists Union. We ride through rain, sun, and the occasional border-crossing shenanigans, all to support better, safer, smarter streets for everyone in Boston and beyond!
And this year, there’s a bit of a personal touch: I’m making something of a comeback.
After a year and a half off the bike due to injuries, surgeries, and various bodily betrayals, I’m climbing back in the saddle. It’s going to be tough. I’m out of shape, carrying some extra pounds, and relearning how to push through long rides. But if there's one thing I know, it’s that Bos/treal is worth it.
Why does this ride matter?
Beyond being an absurdly fun adventure, Bos/treal is the single biggest fundraising event for the BCU; our local champion non-profit org fighting for the infrastructure, policies, and protections that make Boston’s streets safer for cyclists, pedestrians, and everyone moving through our city.
Every dollar raised helps:
- Build safer bike lanes
- Advocate for policy changes
- Ensure Boston prioritizes sustainable transit
And on a personal note…
Bos/treal changed my life. I’ve made lifelong friendships, pushed my limits, and seen firsthand how a group of dedicated, passionate people can transform a city. Hell, I even met, and then proposed to, my fiancée on this ride! As a longtime organizer, it’s been my goal to share even just a fraction of the joy, beauty, and empowerment I found on Bos/treal with others. And after almost a decade, I think we’ve gotten quite good at it!
