Bekah's Bos/tréal (B)fundraiser
What is Bos/tréal?
Later this spring, I will be participating in Bos/tréal. It's a fundraiser bike ride where we'll ride from Boston to Montréal - about 400 miles over 5 days - in order to raise money for the Boston Cyclists Union. This is by far the longest bike ride I’ve ever done and I’m a little scared, but I’m excited to be fundraising for a great organization! My goal is to raise $1900 by May 27th - I would love your help in hitting that goal!
You can learn a little more about why I care about bikes and bike infrastructure by perusing the slideshow below - or you can reach out to me directly. Happy to chat about it any time :)
Edit 04/10/2023:
Well dang, gang! Over a month to go and we already hit the fundraiser goal!!! Thank you to everyone who donated -- your support is very appreciated! If you haven't donated yet but were considering it, please still donate. The BCU still has a ways to go before reaching their overall goal of $90,000, so any and all financial support is welcome.
Lastly, if you'd like to receive updates on how training rides are going, etc, let me know and I'll add you to my email newsletter list!
Shopping on Hope St
Since moving to the city, I've been using my bike instead of my car for as many quick trips around town as I can. For basic errands and lunch stops, etc, it's hard to beat the convenience and fun of a bike.
Providence Bike Jam
PBJ is a monthly party-pace bike ride around the city. There's music, costumes, lights, multiple dance / party stops, and overall a great time. This event helped me gain more confidence riding my bike in the city and get plugged in to the local biking community.
The PBC's "Big Fix" event
I helped out at the Providence Bike Collective's "Big Fix" event last fall -- they received nearly 100 bikes in a bulk donation and needed help fixing them up to redistribute to the community for free.
Learning more about bikes
After attending the "Big Fix," I decided to take the Providence Bike Collective's 6-week "intro to bike mechanics" course last winter so I could contribute more meaningfully at future volunteer events. I learned a ton and met a lot of really cool people!
Bos/treal riders
Some of the lovely folks I will be riding 400 miles with from Boston to Montreal in late May / early June! This pic was taken at our first training ride on Saturday, March 18th.
My first bike
6-year-old me on my first bike without training wheels. My older brother got one for his birthday and I threw a fit until my dad got me one too. I can confirm that riding a bike as an adult is exactly as fun as I remember it being as a kid :)
