I got into cycling at school in Denver, but only since moving to the Boston area has it become part of my everyday life. You may have heard that this year I am graduating from my doctoral program and starting as a professor at Northeastern in the fall. As I celebrate my graduation and prepare to be a daily bike commuter to Boston, I am more thankful than ever for the work of the Boston Cyclists Union! 

The Boston Cyclists Union works to make cycling safer and more accessible for people all over Boston, connecting communities, getting folks outside, and maybe getting more cars off the road! This summer, I'm biking 400 miles from Boston to Montreal in support of the BCU's work to make biking better in Boston.

To me, cycling is more than just an exercise; it is essential transportation that supports the low-carbon future (and present!) of my dreams! Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley says it best: "Cycling sits at the intersection of climate justice, transit justice & health justice. It should be free & accessible to everyone."

The BCU not only achieves incredible advocacy for better biking, but has also succeeded year after year in energizing and uniting a truly amazing, diverse team of folks who all love biking and want to see more bikes on the road. I have been so lucky to be a part of this community and want to give back this year and in the coming years!

I was able to participate in Bostreal last year and it was one of the most amazing weeks of my life. I wasn't convinced I could do it at the start of training season, but persistence and the incredible support of this ragtag group of cyclists made it all possible! This year I am contributing to the organizing team and training just as hard to prepare for that extra 100 miles to get all the way to Montreal.
