I've never biked 400 miles in 5 days before, you've never donated to the Boston Cyclists Union before
Hi, I'm Liora, and if you've ended up on this page you've probably met me before. And if you've met me before, you've probably heard that I like bikes.
Biking is my #1 method of getting where I need to go: it is often the fastest and easiest way of getting around the Boston area, as well as a welcome opportunity to spend time outside. Although I've always loved biking (photo evidence below), I only started bike commuting in the last few years. But biking around any city is a learned skill, and it makes sense why many people are hesitant to get around town on two wheels. I am incredibly thankful I have not (yet—keinehora) had a serious incident on the road, but I've had enough near misses to know how easily it could happen.
That's why the Boston Cyclists Union is so important! From advocacy for protected bike lanes on key commuter corridors to free bike repair help, the BCU is instrumental in creating the physical and social infrastructure necessary to support our community in safely spending more time on bikes. And we all win when more people are biking! In addition to those of us in the saddle getting to experience the joy of zooming ourselves around town, everyone benefits from car trips getting replaced by bike trips: reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved local air quality, and fewer cars making up the traffic.
I'm participating in Bostreal because I love being on a bike, and I want to share that love with as many others as I can. Your donation makes this possible, thank you!
My first bike!
Don't worry, all the rest of the pictures from this day show me wearing a helmet.

The ability to not only get myself around town but also repair my vehicle is INCREDIBLY freeing and confidence-building! So thankful for a strong network of places like Somerville Bike Kitchen (here), the BCU, and other organizations that provide resources for the Boston bike community to fix their own transportation.
The most important thing about big bike rides is that you use the biggest bike possible.
Sometimes bikes are more fun when they're welded together for multiple people to ride. And also look like a lobster. All credit given to the Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race folks for doing what they do.
My first bikepacking trip!

I dream of Boston streets looking like this every day.
Sunny winter day? No better place to be than the Minuteman
