Why is child care the key?

A lower child care bill helps families who are struggling afford housing, healthcare and other necessities.

It allows parents to work or attend school. When it’s not available, it’s primarily women and women of color who are pushed out of the workforce or lose the opportunity to further their educations.

Every child deserves to be safe, feel loved, and eat nutritious food every day. Every child needs access to developmentally-appropriate activities and materials in order to thrive in school and life.

The Child Care Council works – effectively! – to increase access to daycare, after school programs, and summer camp, every day. With the help of our funders and supporters, we:

• help parents find and pay for quality care
• help child care professionals provide better care
• advocate (successfully!) to make child care more affordable through scholarships and other financial assistance
• advocate for child care professionals to earn a living wage
• educate and galvanize the public to take action on this critical issue
