Jes’ family dog, Buster, is a Brother Wolf rescue, and as soon as Jes heard we were considering building a sanctuary, Jes offered his support. Since the very beginning of the project, Jes has helped us evaluate properties and draft initial concepts for master planning. “The wooded mountainside with the little creek running through rolling pasture gives such a peaceful energy. And the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains- you can see all the way to Virginia- it’s really a beautiful space for the new Sanctuary. “At McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, our mission is to help clients create environments that embody their personalities, enrich their lives and enhance the quality of their community. We’ve designed veterinary clinics and done prior work for other animal shelters, so the sanctuary is a great fit for our skills and experience. Plus, Brother Wolf gets such awesome support from the community- we love their passion and energy. So our firm is absolutely thrilled to be a part of this very special project for our community.

Almost since our beginning, Civil Engineer Melanie Breuthaeur (PE, CFM, & Leed AP) has been involved with Brother Wolf as a donor, volunteer, and foster mom. “Over the years, my children, Sophia, Madeline, Max, and I have fostered dozens of kittens to help them get ready for adoption. And my special needs son, Max goes with his personal assistant every friday to do chores at the shelter and help walk dogs. I wanted him to have a job that he loves, and now he’s logged more volunteer hours than I have!” As an environmentalist, Melanie focuses on creative land development solutions that utilize ecologically responsible engineering & surveying to generate smart growth and sustainable design. “The sanctuary property is just an incredible tract of land that not only fits the functional needs of your animal care, but it’s so beautiful, too. I’m so pleased to be working with a team that is 100% on board with sustainability options during land development- some clients I have to beg!”

Jason is a local builder, and he and his family have been involved with Brother Wolf for the past eight years as a donor, foster and volunteer. “I’ve watched Brother Wolf grow from a very small grassroots group to a real force of change in our community and region- and now they’re getting national recognition for their work. They’re always trying to achieve more good for the animals; they aren’t complacent to settle for status quo. That’s inspiring to me- it’s an honor to be on this team and part of this project.”
