#TeamLana: Tiny Princess Warrior & NICU Grad 2016
From little caterpillar to beautiful butterfly
Our sweet little Lana Rose was born prematurely on August 16th, 2015 at 24-weeks due to severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. She spent 6 long months in the hospital, undergoing lots of treatments, but most importantly, much needed growth and development. She was only 12 oz and 10.5 inches when she was born, much like a tiny little caterpillar. Inside her isolette, protected like a chrysallis, she grew stronger and bigger everyday until she emerged, spread her wings like a beautiful butterfly and she was finally able to come home with us, where she belongs, on Saturday, February 6th, 2016.
Lana has now been home for almost 3 months and has been thriving and hitting all her milestones with flying colors! From 12 oz she is now well over 12 lbs and 4-months gestationally (8 months actual). We are so proud and blessed to be her parents. Most of all, we are incredibly grateful to the doctors, nurses, respirartory technicians and staff at Children's Hospital who have helped make our journey as easy, pain-free, hassle-free and successful as possible. We are forever indebted to this magical place that loved and cared for our baby as much as we do.
Please help us in reaching (and exceeding) our modest goal. There are so many families, including ours, that have incredible stories to tell of faith, hope, triumph and love all thanks to the wonderful individuals that work at Children's. Please help support #TeamLana and donate today!

Lana's birth, 9:01 am on August 16th, 2015
Here she is, after being removed from my stomach via emergency C-section, performed by the wonderful Dr. Wothe. Neonatal nurse practitioner Martha was leading the team after the surgery to intubate and get Lana all situated in what was to be her new home, for the next 6 months. We are incredibly grateful for their expert hands and delicate precision. She weighed 12 oz at birth and only 10.5 inches long.
Just chillin' Mom and Dad!
Here is Lana during her first week of life, hanging out in her little isolette. She is wearing "sunglasses" to protect her eyes from the bili light. As you can see, even thought she was tiny, she was just perfect from day one! Look at her beautifully formed hands, fingers, feet and toes. She is truly a miracle!
Holding Mommy's Hand
You can see how tiny Lana really was, in comparison to my hand. This is the first time I was able to touch her after my C-section. It was an incredibly emotional experience.
Eyes open and eating!
Here she is, a little bigger and stronger already, with her eyes open and drinking some breast milk that Mike gave her on a q-tip (her "milk sticks!"). She LOVED drinking breast milk. We loved seeing her open her eyes whenever she heard our voices in the room. It was such an incredible bond to connect with her through her isolette, and we were still not able to take her out. It will be 8 weeks before we would have been able to hold her on our chest for the first time.
Daddy holding Lana for the first time
It was 8 weeks after her birth before we were able to bring her out of the isolette, but before then, we were able to cradle her inside her isolette, and she really, really loved being held! To this day, she loves to be held, and also loves to put her fingers in her mouth :)
BIG Girl!
Lana is on the high-flow nasal cannuala, and sucking on her pacifier! She has mad such amazing progress so far!
I love my NICU nurses!
Check out that awesome little onesie! And hair! She's starting to get some hair :)

Lana is home!
Check out our big girl in her nursery! We decorated her nursery with butterflies. This photo was taken in February 2016.
We love her beautiful smile!
Lana is such a happy and smiley baby! She is still on oxygen at home, but meeting all of her milestones and doing so much better when it comes to her breathing and lung development.
