About Jennifer Lynn Schott

Jenny.pngFunds raised by the Nemours Holiday Golf Classic will benefit research and patient services at the Jennifer Lynn Schott Childhood Arthritis Clinic, known as Jenny’s Place at Nemours Children’s Hospital.

Jennifer Lynn “Jenny” Schott was diagnosed at age two with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Despite the severe pain and experimental medications, Jenny strived to maintain a normal childhood. Jenny spent her life achieving incredible success while gracefully handling pain and the educational, emotional, and social burdens of arthritis.

Jenny became an accomplished and articulate public speaker, winning speech competitions as well as reading from the Bible at church. Though electric scooters and wheelchairs became part of her high school identity, Jenny continued to excel, graduating first in her high school class with the highest-grade point average, a huge accomplishment!

As Jenny was working hard to live her dream of becoming a teacher, the arthritis was working harder at destroying her body. Over the course of her life Jenny had operations on virtually every joint in her body. Joints were either replaced or fused by inserting steel rods in places such as her wrists and ankles. Jenny refused to let the arthritis take control of her life. Despite these obstacles, Jenny was able to achieve her dream by becoming a math and English teacher and teaching students with learning and physical disabilities. Jenny taught many lessons to everyone she met whether student or observer. Jenny peacefully passed away at the age of 26.

About the Jennifer Lynn Schott Childhood Arthritis Clinic at Nemours Hospital (Orlando)

All tournament proceeds will benefit the Jennifer Lynn Schott Childhood Arthritis Clinic (Jenny’s Place).

In April 2019, the Jennifer Lynn Schott Childhood Arthritis Clinic was dedicated at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida thanks in part to a generous donation by the Schott Family in honor and in memory of their daughter, Jennifer Lynn Schott.

The clinic offers full-service juvenile arthritis comprehensive care in one place. The state-of-the-art program is specifically designed to lighten the burden of families seeking treatment for juvenile arthritis and similar conditions. Pediatric rheumatology is different from adult rheumatology because children’s bodies are growing and changing. Plus, kids have different social and emotional challenges that only a pediatric team can address. Our program supports patients and families with seamless care from a team of medical and other professionals, including physicians, nurses, behavioral health specialists, social workers, child life specialists and physical therapists.

Your support ensures the clinic will continue its mission to improve the health of our patients and allow them to live their best lives.
