Our Champions for Kids! Zoom-A-Thon Benefit is a week-long opportunity for you to make a huge impact on the lives of New Haven youth. It kicks off on Monday, October 12 and concludes on Thursday, October 15 with a LIVE virtual variety show starting at 6:30 pm (via Zoom).
This school year looks different, and so do we! To safely meet the challenges faced by New Haven families due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have reimagined the Club to offer a 10-week full-day Learning Hub PLUS after-school program where our 54 youth can be at our Clubhouse from 8:00 am – 5:30 pm. In addition, we're building a brand new teen-lounge in an effort to provide our Club teens with a safe and exciting space that our young people can be proud to call their own.
With our doors being open all day, our expenses will dramatically increase. YOUR SUPPORT is essential to the success of the Learning Hub so that we can keep our program fees within reach of all families, and keep the Hub humming throughout the school year.
In addition to being the exciting final countdown of our fundraising competition, the Champions for Children! Zoom-A-Thon Variety Hour will feature:
· Jesse Campbell, 2019 Youth of the Year Winner
· "You Know The Words" Sing-A-Along with Angela Clemmons, Professional Singer who has worked with Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Vanessa Williams, Martin Short, Gregory Hines, Steely Dan, Roberta Flack, Smokey Robinson, Cyndi Lauper, and many others.
· "Get On Your Feet" Salsa-at-Home with Alisa Bowens-Mercado, Owner of Rhythm Brewing Co. (Connecticut’s first Black owned brewery) and New Haven-based Alisa’s House of Salsa, radio host on New Haven’s WNHH Radio
· Bernie Garibaldi, Former President of BGCNewHaven Alumni Association
· A Not-To-Be Missed Showcase of music, dance, sports and other talents from our Club Kids and AAU team members, and special surprise guests!
