Canine Companions® DIY Fundraising

In honor of future service dog Apex
My personal mission to honor Apex
Apex was the 11th service dog puppy I was raising when his life was tragically cut short at 5 months of age. Apex may have been young, but his time with me was filled with love and support, and he was a well known presense in my community. The Town of Apex is right next to where I live and I loved socializing him around the signs and businesses that carried his name.
I have seen firsthand the impact Canine Companions service dogs have in the lives of their partners. I have visited with three of the graduated service dogs I have raised so far-Ely, Barley and Felix.
* Ely helps with laundry, retrieving water from the fridge and provides weighted pressure.
* Barley is a silent presence inside the courtroom where children have to testify about some very traumatic events.
* Felix is just beginning his journey with his partner and I look forward to hearing more about how he will help his partner in the future.
It can take up to $60K to provide a service dog to an individual-beginning from a puppy's time with their Breeder Caretaker, Puppy Raiser, Professional and Team Training to their final match and continued graduate support. All of this at no cost to the graduate.
In creating this fundraiser, I am honoring Apex by helping to fund the cost of raising and training future service dogs. It is also helping me heal from the sadness I feel about his loss.
The service provided by these dogs is invaluable to people with disabilities. The funds that I raise can help with the costs involved and Apex's memory can live on. Please help me reach my fundraising goal. Any and all donations are appreciated!
Enjoy the pictures below of my time with Apex, and as well, here is his story-

Apex and George
Apex, the puppy I was raising, is celebrating the fall of 2023 with George IX, who is being raised by my daughter. This was taken at one of our puppy classes.
Apex highlights a book about Apex
We found this book by a local author, about the town next to where we live, called Apex. What a perfect fit!
Apex finds a book about him!
Johnson's Subaru of Cary purchased my book series for their children's play area in the dealership and Apex decided to take a peak to help at the books about his friends!
Bringing smiles to those at Dorcas
Apex came with me every week to Dorcas Thrift Store while I volunteered, bringing smiles to all around him as he learned to navigate various commands in the book department. This is Under.
Apex, in Apex, NC
The town next to me was Apex and I took full advantage of sneaking Apex into several photo ops there to showcase his name. This was one of my favorites. We also met together with the mayor of Apex for a polite greeting and photo opportunity.
Apex's blessing at Apex United Methodist Church
We happened to come up the Blessing of the Animals Service in Downtown Apex and of course walked right up so Apex could be blessed as part of the ceremony. He was perfect.
Welcome to Downtown Cary, says Apex
This was a cute take on Apex welcoming the residents of Cary to downtown, funny given his name is of the town next to us!
Apex fire department
We even made a stop one weekend at the Apex fire department to meet up with the crew.
Donating proceeds of Ely's book in honor of Apex
This flyer is used to help promote the sales of one of my books-Ely, Life as a Service Dog Puppy, and letting people know that the proceeds of the book go into this fund for Apex at Canine Companions.
Apex and the Cary High Band
Apex took his first visit to a band competition and I showcased how many minutes of volunteer work it takes to raise a service dog.
Puppy Apex
And of course he was just a fun, loving puppy at home who took lots of naps.
