Primrose (“Prim”) was my second service dog. Her life was tragically cut short when she consumed an Amanita Mushroom. However, her 11 months with me were the best.
Her 3 years of life brought such joy and happiness to her breeder parents (The Doty Family), her puppy raiser (Alison Weinheimer), and all she interacted with. Everyone was so proud to see her blossom into a full-time service dog.
With my Multiple Sclerosis, I face challenges every day moving through the world, but Prim was there to help:
- If I dropped something, Prim retrieved it.
- If I needed a drawer opened or closed, Prim handled it.
- If I was in a crowd, Prim made plenty of space around us.
Of course, one should not think that being a service animal is all work and no play! Primrose and I also shared many great times during her too short service. See photos and videos below.
It takes approximately $60K to support a single Canine Companion from birth, breeding, puppy raising, formal training, educating the graduates and supporting the graduates through retirement. The service provided by these dogs is invaluable to people with disabilities, and I am hoping to honor Primrose’s memory by raising money to help Canine Companions with their mission. To see more about Primrose visited her home page at: Prim's Page (kavy.com).
Canine Companions provides highly trained Service Dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities, and Facility Dogs to professionals who work in hospitals, schools and courtroom settings, at no charge to the recipients. This includes an intensive two-week training class and ongoing support throughout the dog’s working life.
Any and all donations are appreciated.
