After starting out as a volunteer in the fall of 2003, I quickly realized that God was calling me to make Care Net my primary place of service. I joined the staff as Education Director in 2004 and became Associate Director in 2005--working part-time while Russell and Reilly were growing up. I was promoted to Executive Director in 2016 when my long-time friend and colleague Mona Parish retired from that position.
It is truly a privilege to serve shoulder to shoulder with the team of staff and volunteers that God has assembled at Care Net. One of the things that I love about Care Net is that it is a place where women and men of many different Christian denominations joyfully serve together in unity. It's an amazing place that allows volunteers opportunities to share the gospel to women who need hope each week.
Volunteers--peer counselors--are highly trained to help a woman experiencing an unplanned pregnancy make a wise choice--to either parent their child or make an adoption plan. We aim to provide every woman who is pregnant the ability to see her baby via ultrasound. And for those women who do go on to choose abortion, we are there to minister to them as well.
We are pleased to have referrals for all kinds of services--employment assistance, housing, medical care, legal services, professional counseling and more--located right here in our community. At Care Net, we focus on the decision-making of a woman facing an unexpected pregnancy. While we do also provide ongoing spiritual and educational support, we strive to connect women to other organizations in the community who can help meet their other physical and emotional needs.
What limits us the most in the number of women we are able to see at Care Net is the number of volunteers. If you're interested in volunteering, please do let me know!
