Supporting the survivors and fighters in our lives.
Healthy Together
Our YMCA is working to support 12 Cancer Survivors through our LIVEStrong at the Y Program beginning in January. This program helps cancer survivors regain physical strength, while building connections to help strengthen their emotional and mental well-being.
Too many family members and friends have faced this terrifying opponent. Help me honor the warriors in my life by supporting our efforts to provide this life-changing 12 -week program for cancer survivors in our community.
Fighting any life-threatening disease is difficult. I am proud to be part of an organization that supports all the warriors in our community. Thank you for your support!
Here are all of the life-changing programs we offer:
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA
Diabetes Self-Managerment Program
Pedaling for Parkinsons
Neuromotor Wellness Program
Enhance®Fitness Arthritis Program
Smoking Cessation
Donate today to help the CDYMCA keep these programs free of charge for all participants!
Neuromotor Wellness is a research-based exercise program specifically for those with muscular degeneration challenges including but not limited to Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, stroke recovery, and muscle injury.
The class is progressive and holds promise to slow disease progression, restore motor function, and increase longevity and quality of life.
Participants should be able to walk and stand unassisted. Caretakers are strongly encouraged to attend at no additional cost. Participants must have a waiver and medical clearance.
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA focuses on you — the whole person — not the disease. This no cost, 12-week program meets twice a week for 90 minutes, using traditional and holistic exercise methods to ease you back into fitness and help you maintain a healthy life.
We focus on:
building your muscle mass and strength
increasing your flexibility and endurance
improving your confidence and self-esteem
Plus, you learn about wellness and stress reduction techniques and how to continue healthful habits after the program has ended. Just as important, LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA provides a warm spirit of community.
Pedaling a bicycle may change the life of someone with Parkinson’s disease. Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed a 35% reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace – optimally 80-90 revolutions per minute.
The mission of Pedaling for Parkinson’s is:
To improve the quality of life of Parkinson’s disease patients and their caregivers.
To educate patients, caregivers, and the general public about the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle after a Parkinson’s diagnosis.
To support research dedicated to the prevention and treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
