Children with this complex medical condition are born with a genetic difference on their 22nd chromosome that affects proper brain development and functioning. As a result, they experience intellectual and physical disabilities that vary from child to child, often losing many of their essential skills and requiring long-term care and medical attention. Currently, there are no treatments or cures.
