Raising a child with Phelan-McDermid Syndrome comes with many challenges. If it takes a village to raise a child, raising a child or adult with PMS takes a city! Our support system consists of friends, family, teachers, school personnel, school therapists, outpatient therapists, many specialists, researchers, grant programs, Iowa Medicaid, a medicaid case manager, in-home care agencies, the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation, and other PMS families.

The support my family receives from PMSF and other families is crucial in helping us cope with this rocky journey. The bond between many of the moms is incredibly strong. So strong, that some are choosing get a tattoo as a reminder of the love and support that we receive from one another. On our rough days, we can look at it and know that another mom, whether 10 or 1000+ miles away, understands; and that we are NOT alone.

In November, I will be getting the PMS Sisterhood tattoo. This will be my FIRST tattoo! If my goal is met before 11/12, I will livestream when I get the tattoo!
