In 1984, I was offered an opportunity that would change not only the course of my professional life but that would change me for many years to come. As I transitioned from my role as a teacher of children with special needs to a care coordinator and life care planner, I would have the opportunity to meet and work with so many individuals and families who have met challenges that you and I could only imagine. This includes individuals who have experienced limb loss, paralysis, brain and spinal cord injuries, respiratory compromise, transplants and many other health care issues; issues that would require daily medications, specialty equipment, and the reliance on countless health, education and rehabilitation providers. What is unique about The Coordinating Center is the ability of each co-worker to embrace the challenges of these individuals and look for solutions for the numerous service gaps. What started as a fund to purchase cribs for children just coming home from the hospital, quickly expanded to encompass requests for essential goods and services not covered by insurance. Our clients needed help with prescription co-pays, the purchase of eyeglasses, specialty bikes and other adapted therapy and transport equipment, funding for specialty camps and exercise programs, communication devices and home adaptations. To than end, the co-workers started the Family Resource Fund; a fund that, with the help of friends like you, has grown each year and helped our ever expanding group of clients.
