In March 2017, our lives changed forever when our precious daughter Lily was born with an unexpected genetic condition. At just two days old, she underwent emergency open-heart surgery because she didn’t have the vital heart valve connection to her lungs.
We didn’t know about her condition while we were pregnant. Thankfully, our cardiologist checked on Lily in the NICU, discovered her life-threatening condition and rushed her to the local children’s hospital for surgery. We were told this is the only childhood heart condition considered an emergency.
After 10 days in the CICU, Lily came home with a repaired heart and an unbreakable spirit. But our journey didn’t end there—her genetic condition affects many other areas of her health, and we continue to navigate these challenges with her every day.
