One in three women will experience a form of domestic violence in their lifetime. Domestic violence is used to exert and maintain total control over victims. It can happen to anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion or gender. It affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds and now, more than ever, victims of domestic violence need our help.

LSS CHOICES is the only domestic violence shelter in Franklin County, Ohio. CHOICES offers victims and their children a safe place to go to break the cycle of domestic violence and begin the healing process. With a 24-hour crisis hotline, legal and community advocates, counseling, peer support groups, and other critical services, CHOICES helps victims leave behind abusive relationships and create a safer future for themselves and their loved ones.

I am proud again this year to serve as a Choose Hope Champion. I decided to Choose Hope four years ago and began volunteering at CHOICES after losing a dear friend to domestic violence. By raising money to help support victims of domestic violence and their children, we will help to create a safer future, free from violence.

This past year has been difficult for everyone, especially those experiencing the additional crisis of domestic violence. As the pandemic progressed, LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence saw an increase in the need for our services, including safe shelter. At the same time, the number of calls to our hotline from victims and police officers with a high risk for lethality increased.
