Every day, the CJD Foundation responds to calls and emails on our 7-day Helpline from families who are reeling from a CJD diagnosis, and from professionals and families who are caring for a CJD patient and need answers, resources, and referrals.

Every month, we:

• Host support groups for caregivers, bereaved families, those at risk of genetic prion disease, and others. 

• Offer medical education sessions for physicians and other professionals, and share vital information through our website and other resources

Every year, we:

• Award research grants and fellowships to help scientists explore mechanisms of prion disease and pursue potential diagnostics and treatments.  In January 2025, thanks to your support, the CJD Foundation awarded 7 research grants and 2 fellowships.  For information, visit Research Grant Recipients - CJD Foundation.

• Educate policymakers to be sure they recognize the brutal impact of CJD on families and understand how to help support Prion Disease surveillance and research.  Visit Capitol Hill with us or use our templates to contact your Senators and Representatives in Congress.  To sign up for 2026 Advocacy Day, visit CJD Advocacy Day 2026. 

• Host a conference that connects families with professionals, provides updates from grant recipients and experts, and enables families to speak one-on-one with Prion Disease experts.  This past July, families heard from five organizations that are actively working to develop drugs that target Prion Disease.
