Classes & Schedule Questions

In this section, you'll find the answers to these questions:

1. What's the schedule?

2. How do I register for classes?

3. How do I join Discord?

4. Where can I meet and write with other participants?

5. Will there be writing prompts?

6. How do I find critique partners?

1. What's the schedule?

Every week there will be a class or webinar and writing sprints for you to join. You can find the full schedule here: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/clarionwestwriteathon/page/schedule/

2. How do I register for classes?

A link to the class registration page will be sent to you with your registration confirmation. You can also find the link in the "Resources" tab of your Fundraising Dashboard and in Discord! Email us at writeathon@clarionwest.org if you can't find the link or have a problem with registration.

With the exception of the Flash Fiction Workshop, all classes and sprints are free and exclusive to Write-a-thon participants, but you will have to re-enter your information to secure your seat in class. You will receive the class link and Zoom information at the time you register for a class or sprint.

3. How do I join Discord?

You will be sent an invitation to join our Write-a-thon Discord server after registration. Please read the Discord information and agree to follow our policies and Write-a-thon Code of Conduct before posting.

If you don’t see a discussion channel that interests you, please tell our admin what you’re looking for, or send us a note at helpdesk@clarionwest.org. We may be able to start a new one for you!

4. Where can I meet and write with other participants?

The best part about the Write-a-thon is finding an online community to support you and your writing goals. There are lots of ways to meet other participants during the Write-a-thon, including:

  • Join a weekly sprint! If posted sprint times don't meet your needs or schedule, go to the sprint channel in Discord and post a time you plan to dedicate to writing. Other writers may join you and encourage you to stay accountable!
  • Join or start a group in Discord! Popular past channels have included science fiction, horror, and table top gaming.
  • Find a critique partner or start your own critique group! We will have one Discord channel devoted to writers looking for critique buddies.
  • Join the Flash Fiction Workshop! Gain new skills and insights through focused group critiques.
  • Start a team! Create your own goals and meetups to accomodate your needs!

5. Will there be writing prompts?

Yes. We’ll post a new writing prompt each week from one of the six organizations partnering with us this year. Prompts will be posted in Discord every Saturday at 6 pm.

6. How do I find critique partners?

There are two easy ways to find critique partners during this year's Write-a-thon:

  • We will have one Discord channel devoted to writers looking for critique partners. You can post your interests and connect with folks as you go or place your name in a shared spreadsheet to help you and others find each other. This is a self-directed channel, where you will look for like-minded folks on your own. While you can register for the Write-a-thon at any time, we recommend that you start early if you hope to find critique partners for the duration of the event.
  • Join the Flash Fiction Workshop to gain new skills and insights within a critique group.
