Tye'Rell has a past medical history of aortic atresia.
My heart warrior Tye'Rell has led me to participate in the Congenital Heart Walk. It's not just a walk; it's a stride toward saving lives.
Tye'Rell was born November 7, 2011 & his life was saved 7 days later.
On November 14, 2011 he underwent his first open heart surgery, the Norwood operation with shunt. After the operation Tye'Rell was placed on ecmo support for his heart to rest due to low blood pressure and abnormal pumping function of the cardiac ventricles. While on ecmo, Tye'Rell had a stroke on the right hemisphere of his brain. During his hospitalization he had feeding issues and many other complications.
January 30, 2012 he was transferred to Cleveland Clinic children's hospital for Rehabilitation for feeding Theraphy due to feeding issues and his dependency on Ng tube feedings. We was later discharged February 22, 2012. We couldn't wait to bring our miracle baby home.
Tye'Rell was only home for about 12 days before his next admission.
March 6, 2012 he was admitted for a cardiac cath which showed narrowing of the aorta. Two areas of narrowing across the left ventricular outflow tract were ballooned, but there was only slight improvement. Tye'Rell continued with multiple episodes of desaturations. Due to his multiple desates he was kept intubated, sedated and paralyzed. We were informed that he needed surgery but had a 50/50 chance of surviving. We were then giving information to get the workup started for a heart transplant (which he didn't need.) but another open heart surgery was needed.
March 15, 2012 he was taken to Operating room for an Aortic Arch Reconstruction and our little warrior fought hard for his life. We were then discharged May 7, 2012.
October 31, 2012 he was admitted back into cleveland clinic children's Hospital for VSD closure and right ventricle to pulmonary atery conduit. We were told he may be a candidate for a two ventricle repair, and that he was. He toleratd the procedure well. He required meds to help his heart beat at first. His post operation course he had outstanding fevers and Leukocytosis which led to antibiotic treatments. We were glad to pronounce our son now has two ventricles.
September 22, 2021 Tye'Rell was admitted for his fourth open heart surgery. He was taking into the operating room for a ventricle pulmonary artery conduit and left pulmonary artery surgical repairment.
Tye'Rell has had four open heart sugeries. His journey is not yet over and there may be other required surgeries but thanks to research he has a promising future.
