At College Mentors for Kids, we have a big goal. We believe that mentoring transforms lives. That's why we connect kids to college students through weekly on-campus activities that inspire growth, confidence, and brighter futures. Our innovative 501(c)3 organization pairs children one-­on-­one with a mentor and engages them in activities where they discover the joy of learning and the power of mentoring. These kids, or little buddies, are from local schools and together, with us mentors, they participate in structured group activities that focus on higher education and careers, culture and diversity, and community service. Many of the kids we serve have added challenges; most of them live in poverty or low-income homes, and more than 80% of them don’t have a family history of higher education. In the end, we hope our little buddies are paving ways to brighter futures and our college student mentors are learning the importance of community involvement and leadership. The Butler University chapter of College Mentors for Kids serves 110 little buddies from IPS #48 Louis B. Russell Jr. Elementary School, KIPP Indy Unite Elementary, and IPS #43 James Whitcomb Riley Elementary School.

I joined this program my Sophomore year at Butler and I cherish all of the relationships I have formed thus far with my little buddies. I truly feel as if I am making a positive impact in their lives. This year, my little buddy is a third grader named Azharia. She provides so much joy to my Wednesday afternoons each week. She loves to sing and dance and wants to be a scientist when she grows up.
