Why College Mentors?
Childhood can be difficult to navigate, especially without a caring adult to help guide you. Many of the kids we serve in the Ithaca community have added challenges; most of them live in poverty or low-income homes, and more than 80% of them don't have a family history of higher education.
Cornell's chapter of College Mentors for Kids provides college student mentors to serve as positive role models for these kids and introduce them to new opportunities, helping them to create new visions for their futures.
As Chapter President, my role largely is to oversee our executive board, staff and mentors, and to ensure that all logistics and preparations go smoothly so that our little buddies and mentors can have the best experience at activity every week. It has been an absolute blessing to watch the mentoring relationships develop and grow deeper every week little buddies and mentors get together, and I am reminded every week of just how special it is to be able to be a part of this organization. I hope to continue to lead our chapter and steadily improve it throughout the school year.
To achieve these goals, we collect donations from those who support our mission. Please consider making a donation to help me meet my fundraising goal! Your contribution will allow us to continue this program on Cornell's campus so that we can make an even greater impact on these kids who need it.
