It's a hard time to be a kid! With all kinds of  peer pressures and changes in life, it's tough to navigate without a caring adult to help them through. Thankfully, College Mentors for Kids provides college student mentors (like me!) to serve as positive role models for many of the kids (like my little buddy!) we serve that have added challenges. These challenges include living in poverty or low-income homes, and having more than 80% of their family members without higher education. 

I am estatic that I am a mentor because I get to spend quality time with my little buddy, Bre, each week. We do fun activities together, like make slime, learn about science and go on field trips, along with other mentors and buddies in our group. I also enjoy learning  about different career paths, culture, diversity, and community service with her. Another big part of this process is learning and forming a bond that is important with my buddy! Bre and I make sure to spend time asking each other questions and learning different things from each other. For example, we got to spend halloween together with our fun costumes (as seen in the profile picture)! 

It's important to me to give back to the community that I am now involved in here by mentoring, and I'm learning important leadership skills in the meantime. These skills will help me to become a successful teacher in the future.
