NF Northeast is an organization close to my heart. My daughter Elisabeth died from a similar brain disorder when she was 3 years old. Neurofibromatosis (NF) is the most common genetic disorder caused by a single gene and affects 1 in every 3,000 people. NF can cause uncontrolled tumor growth along the nerves anywhere in or on the body at any time. Manifestations of NF include disfigurement, blindness, learning disabilities, deafness, brain tumors, seizures, and cancer. Currently, there is no effective treatment or cure.
