I'm excited to share that this school year I am mentoring with an organization on campus called College Mentors for Kids. College Mentors is a national nonprofit that collaborates with 31 universities, including Purdue University. Each week we bring kids in 1st - 8th grade to campus to experience some of the amazing things college has to offer. We do activities that expose the kids to new opportunities and that are unique to our campus, like experiments with the science department, taking a tour of the campus, or even meeting some of the cultural clubs on campus. But the best part of spending my week with my little buddy is seeing how excited they get just to see me!

Research shows that kids with mentors view themselves and their futures more positively than those without mentors. Not only do they view themselves in a more confident light, but they also achieve more positive outcomes in school, the workplace, and their communities. We all know that growing up is challenging, but, with a mentor, it’s a little easier. And that’s exactly why I’ve chosen to be volunteer with College Mentors.

I love being a part of College Mentors because it truly is so inspiring to see the kids wanting to learn more and eager to know about college. 

Our program is free for kids and mentors because we know access to enriching after-school opportunities is not always equitable. That's why I'm fundraising, to support my little buddy coming to campus each week. I have a goal to raise $200.00 this year.
