Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Majeski and I am a sophomore nursing student at Miami University! This is my second year in College Mentors for Kids and this organization has truly changed my life. 

This organization gives me the opportunity to serve as a positive role model for elementary students and inspire growth, confidence and a brighter future. Last year I was a mentor paired with a fourth grade student that left a large impact on my life. Every week my buddy taught me something new about myself and how important my role as their mentor was. Research shows that kids with mentors view themselves and their futures more positively than those without mentors. Not only do they view themselves in a more confident light, but they also achieve more positive outcomes in school, the workplace, and their communities. We all know that growing up is challenging, but, with a mentor, it’s a little easier. This program helps me to give back to my community, and I'm learning important leadership skills in the meantime.

This year I took the role as a GM which is like a classroom leader. I get to guide mentors and buddies in my class each week through activities while also helping them form connections with each other. We even named our buddy family and our buddies decided on the Ice Shark Dragons which I think is pretty cool! I also am a transportation officer which means I ride the bus with the students from their school to Miami University and back! This gives me the chance to learn more about all the buddies in this program outside of my classroom. I also get to talk with parents and make sure that the buddies get home safely. I am so thankful for the time I get to spend with the students in this program and leave a positive impact on their lives. It is my favorite part of my week!
