Did you know that mentoring can truly change a life? Research shows that kids with mentors develop greater confidence and a more positive outlook on their futures. Growing up isn't always easy, but having a mentor can make a lasting difference, which is why I chose to volunteer with College Mentors for Kids.
I chose to become a mentor in my sophomore year here at NC State and through this program, I mentor my little buddy, Lavar, a 9-year-old third grader. He enjoys being quartback for his football team and playing with his dog! Each week, we spend time together on campus participating in fun activities focused on academics, career exploration, culture and diversity, and community service.
I love volunteering because I get to learn and grow alongside Lavar while watching his confidence continue to build. Being his mentor has helped me develop leadership skills and has given me the opportunity to give back to my community in a meaningful way.
