Why College Mentors?

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I could remember. I have always tried to get as much experience working with kids as I could. From volunteering to supervise kids, working at my local park district back at home, and babysitting. I have loved every chance I have gotten to work with children. I enjoy being able to be a role model for kids and watching them grow and succeed.

College Mentors for Kids is an amazing program that connects elementary students with college students. These kids come from local schools near Illinois State University. Students are able to meet with their mentors weekly where they complete fun and educational activities and games together. Given the condition that the world is in right now, College Mentors for Kids will be done virtually on zoom this year.

My role during College Mentors for Kids is going to be shadowing the vice president of activity planning. I will also be helping the vice president and the activities directors plan different activities for the buddies and mentors to do every week.

I am so excited to be part of this amazing program.
