When Women Experience Stability,
Possibility Opens.

At 82 years old, Evelyn never imagined she would find herself without a place to call home. After caring for a close friend until the end of their life, she remained in the mobile home park where they had lived together. When the owner required her to vacate the space, she had nowhere to go.

Evelyn began calling shelters, but none had any openings. Then she reached Helen’s Place and learned that a bed was available. For the first time in a long time, she felt safe. She began to believe that something better was possible.

Evelyn and her case manager began building a path forward. Despite significant challenges – fixed income, health concerns, and no savings – Evelyn stayed engaged and hopeful. She met regularly with her case manager, who helped her create a housing stability plan, connect with housing opportunities, and access transportation support.

A few months later, an opening became available at The Cottages, The Sophia Way’s transitional housing program for women age 55 and older. Today, Evelyn has a safe, stable place to call home while she works toward permanent housing. Stability has given her hope, security, and the confidence of a better future.
