My name is Nate Howell. I am currently the Team Lead for Beacon's Supportive Housing program, and have been involved in the work of Beacon, in various capacities, since 2017. Working with Beacon has been a beneficial and life-changing expereince for me. But, more importantly, we at Beacon continually strive to provide life-sustaining assistance, and help to change lives for the better, for some of our most vulnerable and in-need members of the Bloomington, Indiana community. Being able to help and give back to my hometown in this way, means more than my typed words here can ever express!
I’m excited to be part of Beacon’s Halloween Bash Costume Contest! This page is where I’ll collect votes for my costume and raise critical funds for Beacon.

Every vote makes a real difference. Beacon provides essential support for our neighbors experiencing homelessness through different programs, including:
- Shalom Center: Our day shelter provides meals, showers, laundry, mail delivery, and access to caseworkers, serving dozens of people daily in a safe, supportive environment.
- Phil's Kitchen: Operating out of the Shalom Center, our Phil's Kitchen program provides 2 warm, nutritionally balanced, handmade meals a day, Monday-Friday.
- Friend’s Place: The only year-round, nonreligious, emergency shelter for adults in the region. Friend's Place provides 40 safe and sober beds, with at least 20 beds reserved for women.
- Family Housing: This program helps individuals and families quickly transition into stable housing by providing case management and short-term financial support for deposits, rent, and other moving expenses.
- Supportive Housing: A permanent housing program for individuals with disabilities and long-term homelessness. The 110 homes provide stability and support, significantly reducing emergency room visits and incarceration.
